CONAI

The National Consortium for Recovery and Recycling of Cellulose Packaging (CONAI) is a private no-profit organization. It is the largest consortium of Europe, with over 1.4 million subscribers, and is composed of all the producers and users of packaging in order to implement an integrated management system based on the recovery and recycling of packaging wastes.

The CONAI system integrates itself with affiliated producers and importers of packaging and / or raw materials used for the production of packaging. Its business model bases its strength on the principle of ‘shared responsibility’, which requires the involvement of all stakeholders in waste management: companies, state administration, territory and citizens.

From 1 January 2018, the new environmental contribution for paper packaging will come into force, rising to €10 per tonne.

From 1 January 2019 CONAI will become 20 € per tonne.
